Our engagement story! A & M

Saturday morning I woke up excited to head to UMass for our alumni game. Kate and I played D1 lacrosse UMass Amherst for all 4 years. It was some of the best and hardest days of our lives. Every year we head back to UMass to see a bunch of alumni and scrimmage against the current team.

To set the scene, Garber is a historic field, one in which my dad actually played lacrosse on too, back when he was at Brown! It is set on campus and is surround by kids walking to and from class. Matt played lacrosse at UMass too! We both spent countless hours on the field, as well as UMass in general is where we both met. We met when he was a Junior and I was a Freshman, same as Kate and Joel! We’ve been together for around 7 years!

As Kate and I walked up to the gates at Garber Field to grab our annual picture in front of the gates Kate had told me to stand there quickly to grab a picture of me before the game. As I walked over to stand there Matt appeared from behind the gates. I immediately covered my eyes and started crying/shaking! I was so shocked to see him, as I thought he was at our house in VA. When he walked over he had the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on his face. After a few words he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and of course I said YES!

It was so special because seconds later I was hugging Kate, who helped coordinate with Matt, my parents and best friend from college. Also, Matt’s family was there too. A few minutes later the UMass band appeared and started playing and the girls lacrosse team was walking through the gates and onto the field. The timing was incredible because for those few moments when Matt proposed it was silent and felt as though we were the only ones around.

We celebrated after with my alumni girls (we all had plans to go to The Hanger after and of course since Matt was there he joined 🙂 They sent over champagne and we got to all catch up over some laughs and memories.
