Yay! Congratulations on tying the knot! This fall holds a special place in our hearts, not just because it’s our favorite season, but because this time last fall we were both getting married! Even Grace was married in the fall in November she’ll be celebrating her six wedding anniversary. Although it wasn’t the easiest process due to the rescheduling 3x each due to covid, both our days ended up being so special, perfect and surrounded by so much love! I know there are still covid brides out there and waiting on their rescheduled weddings- just know your special day will be perfect no matter how you celebrate!
Here are some tips on things to do now that you’re married! (some of which we found out the hard way & some we are still working on!
- Plan your honeymoon in your maiden name if you are going right after your wedding!
- Thank you notes! Order your thank yous right after if you’re using a wedding photo and try to do this within the first 60 days, no more than 90 days. Even though it might sound uncomfortable you should definitely acknowledge if it was a cash/check gift & with cash put the amount given. It will give the person who gave it to you peace of mind knowing that you received exactly what was given.
- Change your social security #! First things first when changing your name you need to change your social security # first . You’ll be asked to mail in a copy of your marriage certificate so make sure you don’t need your marriage certificate for a few weeks.
- Next, you can now change your LICENSE! tip: If you can make an appointment at the DMV- I think a lot of DMV are still requiring appointments! I was in an out in 5 minutes & that has never happened!
- Open up a bank account with both your names! You will most likely have checks to deposit with your new married name that can only be deposited if you have your new name.
- Change your name on your AIRLINE ACCOUNTS if you want to use points & credits! Don’t let those miles go to waste and be sure to change your name on your accounts- most of the time they just require your social security # and/or picture of your new license and marriage certificate! Do this way in advance because trying to get ahold of the airlines lately has been a nightmare!
- CREDIT CARDS– change your name on your credit cards now! Most apps just require you upload a picture of your new ID
- PASSPORT– I just did this this past week! Even though I’m not headed out of the country anytime soon, this process has been taking extra long so give yourself time!
- PICTURES– Save and/or print your pictures from your photographer! Most times they are only saved up to one year on the photographers site.
- Insurance– many people can do this ahead of time due to common law, but if you haven’t be sure to check this out and get on the same health insurance!
- & one more! Don’t forget to freeze your cake or even just a piece! (if you are planning on celebrating with it a year later), preserve your flowers, love what Anne did with hers HERE & clean your dress and/or tux!
Enjoy the newlywed life and take time to take it all in + here are some fun things to order with your new initials!
